I saw this question posted at the new Microsoft Town Hall.

Why should we choose to homeschool our children? It may seem like the most obvious choice in the world to some people, but for others it is a gripping question. How would you answer? What influenced your choices?

I can't believe that the cat got everyone's tongue here on this topic!

For me there were, at first and beforehand, a lot of various reasons. But I now have only one that I feel deserving to offer anyone and everyone who is considering homeschooling their children, and I offer it in a Socratic way:

Do you remember when your child took their first steps? Uttered their first word? And, you were actually there?

I think that rhetorical remark speaks for itself. I have no words to express the joy I experience in homeschooling my daughter.

I hope that helps!

Kindest regards,

The answer above says it nicely. Besides the joy of teaching your kids, there are the benefits to them of better academics, better socialization, etc., etc.

There's a nice list of questions and answers on the benefits to kids from homeschooling in the book Teach Your Own by John Holt and Pat Ferenga, in a number of different areas. There are several other books and Web sites that I've seen with lists of reasons that parents give for homeschooling.

I am 48 years old and I was home schooled. If you work at home schooling (and it is a lot of time and commitment - we are home schooling twins right now) your children will get a better education. You will get a better education. You will get a better relationship with your children.

As a 30-year-old homeschool graduate, I completely agree. Well said.
